How this is calculated

A spray record answers the questions a buyer, auditor or packhouse asks about any batch of produce: what went on it, how much, when, who applied it and whether the produce was harvested after the product's waiting period. Each column is there for one of those answers.

  • Date, field/block, crop and growth stage tie every application to a specific piece of land and a specific crop, so a harvested lot can be traced back to what it received.
  • Area sprayed lets the rate and the total product be checked against each other.
  • Target shows why the product was used, and that it is registered for that pest, disease or weed on that crop.
  • Product, active ingredient and registration number identify exactly what was applied. Buyers check active ingredients against the residue limits of the market they sell into.
  • Rate per ha and water volume show the label rate was followed and the sprayer was set up for it.
  • Sprayer, operator and weather show who applied it, with what, and that conditions suited spraying (low wind means less drift).
  • Pre-harvest interval (PHI) and re-entry interval (REI) come from the label: the days to wait before harvest and the hours before people may go back into the sprayed field to work, where the label gives one.

The formulas:

  • Total product used = rate per ha × area sprayed. 0.25 L/ha on 12.5 ha = 3.125 L.
  • Earliest harvest date = spray date + PHI days. Sprayed on 5 October with a 14-day PHI: harvest from 19 October. A part day is rounded up. Dates are counted in whole calendar days, so the result does not shift with your device's time zone.
  • Earliest harvest by field = the latest of those dates across every spray on the field, because harvest has to wait for the longest remaining PHI.
  • Product used per product = the sum of total product for every entry with the same trade name, kept separately for litres and kilograms. Compare it with what left your chemical store.

Your log is saved only in this browser on this device. Clearing browsing data deletes it, so print it or download the CSV (it opens in any spreadsheet) after each spraying day.
